Cabin addition

Gunnison National Forest, Colorado

Two story, two bedroom and one bath addition to a tiny cabin on a Forest Service lease. The cabin addition is super-insulated and clad in oiled fir barnwood, while the interior is finished with reclaimed pine, white oak floors, and alder trimwork. A spiral staircase maximizes square footage. New mechanical systems fully update the cabin's functionality. Material choices and details update the cabin and provide a clean, comfortable living area while maintaining the visual character of the existing 1940s cabin style.
